Employees

The Employees module connects your IT asset inventory to the people in your organization. Rather than treating equipment as abstract inventory items, Computtite lets you assign assets directly to individuals and track the full chain of custody over time. The People view is accessible from the Employees section in the sidebar.

Employee Profiles

Each employee in Computtite has a profile with the following information:

  • Name: Full name. Required.
  • Email: Work email address. Optional but recommended — used for identification in exports and reports.
  • Role: Job title or function within the organization (e.g., "Software Engineer", "Finance Analyst", "IT Support"). This is a free-text field, not connected to workspace roles (which are a governance concept). Optional.
  • Department: The department this employee belongs to. Selecting a department connects the employee to departmental reports and statistics. Optional — employees can exist without a department.
  • Avatar: An optional profile photo. Added in v3 to help visually identify employees in the assignment picker and employee list.

The employee profile page shows all assets currently assigned to this person, their assignment history (every asset they have ever held in the workspace), and their department membership.

Adding and Managing Employees

Employees are added manually through the Add employee form in the Employees section. In cloud mode, workspace members (people with login access) are separate from employees — a workspace member can log in and manage data, while an employee is a person in your organizational directory who may or may not log in. Employee records primarily serve as assignment targets for assets.

You can edit any employee's information at any time — updating a name, email, role, or department does not affect assignment history.

Relational Integrity on Deletion

If you delete an employee, Computtite handles everything automatically: all their active assignments are closed, returning those assets to the unassigned pool. Historical assignment records are preserved — you still have a complete audit trail showing that this person had those assets. Future reports may display them as "Former employee".

Employee View in Reports

The Employee Assignments report generates a per-person breakdown of all current asset assignments — who has what, for how long, and in which department. The Employees report generates a full directory of everyone in the workspace with their department and role, exportable to CSV, Excel, PDF, or Markdown. Both reports can be pushed to Google Sheets or Notion via the integration features.
