Departments
Departments are the organizational grouping layer in Computtite. They let you associate both employees and assets with a business unit, cost center, or team, enabling department-level reporting and filtering across the entire workspace.
Creating and Managing Departments
Departments are created from the Employees → Departments tab. Each department has a name that must be unique within the workspace. There are no sub-departments or hierarchies in the current version — the structure is flat. Common examples: Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Operations, HR, Executive, IT Support, Legal, Sales.
Once a department exists, you can assign employees to it from their employee profile, and assets are automatically associated with a department when assigned to an employee who belongs to one. Assets can also be explicitly assigned to a department without going through an employee assignment — useful for shared equipment like conference room displays, printers, or lab workstations that aren't tied to a specific person.
Department Reports and Statistics
The department detail view shows:
- The total number of employees in that department.
- All assets currently associated with the department (either through employee assignments or direct association).
- A breakdown of asset types in use by that department.
The By Department report (available in the Reports section) generates an aggregate table showing asset counts bucketed by department — answering questions like "How many laptops does Engineering have?" or "Which department has the most unassigned equipment?" This report is filterable by asset type and exportable in all standard formats.
Deleting Departments
Deleting a department does not delete the employees or assets associated with it. Employees in that department are updated to have no department assignment. Assets directly associated with the department are dissociated. No data is lost — only the grouping relationship is removed.
